Paradise Lounge's Sam Owen battles for the ball

A second-half double from substitute striker James Coombes could not rescue Paradise Lounge from slipping to defeat at the hands of Barr Beacon Galaxy.

Paradise paid the price for yet another slow start when their opponents found the back of the net from close range with less than 10 minutes on the watch.

But the visitors responded well to the early setback and dominated the rest of the first-half at Aldridge Airfield, but could not turn their possession into goals.

Midfield dynamo Sam Owen was unlucky to miss his one-on-one, while right-back James Wilkinson saw his sweet volley fizz wide of the left stick.

Shortly after the interval, Wilkinson’s wonderful through ball was perfect for Coombes who raced away from the chasing defenders and rifled in the equaliser.

Barr Beacon Galaxy were soon back in front as they capitalised on some slack marking at the far post to head a corner into the roof of Paul Webb’s net.

It then got better for the home side as they scored again, but super sub Coombes pounced on a calamity clearance to give his team a chance of a comeback.

In the final stages the Lounge threw the kitchen sink at the Galaxy goalmouth, but their relentless pressure ultimately went unrewarded.

Player-manager Graham Welsh was disappointed with Paradise’s second successive defeat:

“Our slow start was to blame again. It’s three points lost, but it was a spirited second-half fightback and a good performance from the two sub strikers.”

Paradise: Paul Webb, Lee Rafter, Paul Hill, Ben Lowe, James Wilkinson, Dale Harley (Ben Hartshorne), Sam Owen, Adam Worthington, Jack Lowe, Simon Owen (James Coombes), Pete Burton (Graham Welsh). Subs not used: Stuart Gauntlett, Mark Morris, James Warburton, Jay Tomkins.
