A new all-weather sports pitch in Burntwood has been given its official opening.

England hockey star Susie Gilbert joined students and representatives from the school and local organisations to cut the ribbon on the new facility at Chasetown Specialist Sports College.

Headteacher Bernice Astling said:

“We are delighted with our new all-weather pitch which is a fantastic addition to our sport facilities.  I know that the students have really enjoyed using the pitch and will continue to use the pitch for lessons and fixtures against other schools.

“We are also proud to be able to open the pitch to bookings by local clubs and teams.”

I wish you well with your new sporting facility, which will not only benefit the children at this school but also the wider community, through lettings to local clubs and teams. It is wise to encourage our children to take an interest in the healthy pursuits that sport creates and the clubs which present an avenue to explore once children have left school.
