Santa will be checking his Christmas routes when he takes to the streets of Lichfield.

Three months of work by Lichfield Round Table to create their new sleigh will come to fruition when they start their annual tour of the city’s neighbourhoods, starting with Trent Valley this evening (December 1).

Adrian Hope, the Chairman of Lichfield Round Table, said:

“The old sleigh was getting to the stage where major work was required to ensure that this well-loved tradition was not lost and therefore the decision was taken to completely rebuild.

“It has been a big project which we couldn’t take on just on our own and so we approached HMP Young Offenders Institution Swinfen who, in conjunction with South Birmingham College, built and painted the new reindeer and sleigh as a local community project and they did a great job and we are very grateful to them.

“We would also like to thank Tippers for donating materials and Atlas Clinical for the use of their workshop and further materials.”

The Santa sleigh is Lichfield Round Table’s biggest fundraiser and the majority of the money raised goes straight back to the local organisations who help the organisation collect each year, with the rest providing funds to meet other local requests throughout the year.

Anyone interested in joining the group in helping Santa this year and taking part in the activities that Round Table take part in call 0800 148 8598, or visit www.lichfield.roundtable.co.uk. Routes and dates for the sleigh will also be available on the website.
