Police are hoping Lichfield rail commuters can help the identify a man they want to speak to in connection with a sexual assault.

British Transport Police (BTP) has released a CCTV photograph of the man they believe will have information about the incident which took place at Birmingham New Street Station on November 15.

PC Paul Wilson, one of the investigating officers, said:

“The 17-year-old victim was smoking a cigarette outside the entrance to the main concourse at Birmingham New Street railway station at around 4.50pm. She was approached by a man who began to engage her in conversation before touching her face and attempting to kiss her.

“The victim feared for her safety and ran into the station to get away from the man. We also believe the man, who the victim described as speaking in broken English, may have targeted another woman in the station in a similar way.

“BTP will not tolerate behaviour such as this and I am appealing for anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image to come forward straight away, as you may have vital information which can assist our investigation.”

Anyone who knows the identity of the man, or his whereabouts, is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, quoting incident number B9 of 01/12/2010 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
