A new outdoor gym in Lichfield has had its official opening.
The site at Stowe Fields was created thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Rotary Club of Lichfield St Chad – a group of volunteers who work to improve the quality of life in their local and wider communities.
The club raised £17,000 over the past three years, from events such as the ever popular Cars in the Park.
Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said:
“The outdoor gym looks fantastic and we’re all impressed with the top quality equipment. I am sure it will attract lots of people to come here to keep fit in the beautiful surroundings of Stowe Fields. On behalf of the council, I would like to once again thank the Rotary Club of Lichfield St Chad for all their hard work in raising the money, and for donating it to such a great scheme.”
Installed near the children’s play area, the gym is free for everyone to use. It features cardio, tone and chill-out zones – with equipment such as a leg press, a sit ups bench and a chest press.
Keith Eagland, member of the Rotary Club of Lichfield St Chad, said:
“To see the results of all our hard work is very rewarding. We hope the gym proves popular with visitors to Stowe Pool, helping them to keep fit and healthy.”
The opening also saw the unveiling of new distance markers around Stowe Pool.
The markers are placed at quarter of a mile points so runners and walkers can keep track of how far they have gone.
