Lichfield gardener is hanging up his spade after nearly half a century tending to green spaces in the city.

Percy Dennis, from Fradley, is retiring after 47 years of work as a gardener in Beacon Park and Lichfield city.

He began his green-fingered career at what was then Lichfield City Council in 1963, and has worked at Beacon Park doing general gardening ever since.

Percy said:

“I’ve enjoyed my time at Beacon Park, but I’m now looking forward to my retirement.”

Colleagues from Lichfield District Council’s grounds maintenance team and parks team gathered at the park for a buffet lunch to say goodbye.

Gary Brownridge, Streetscene and Fleet Manager for Lichfield District Council, said:

“Percy has had a long and dedicated working life at Beacon Park. He will be greatly missed by the team, who wish him all the best in the future.”
