Lichfield and Burntwood residents asked to make sure A&E visit is necessary

Lichfield and Burntwood residents are being urged to think about alternative services before heading to accident and emergency.

Good Hope Hospital is appealing for people to consider using walk in centres, GPs surgeries and NHS Direct where possible as the winter weather sees emergency departments under greater pressure than usual.

Dr Aidan Macnamara, Clinical Director for A&E, said:

“It is about looking at things a bit differently, rather than just automatically thinking A&E is the only place to go for treatment, it may actually be more beneficial for the patient to consider the other local services available to them.

“During this very busy period, we need to remind patients of the wide range of information and out-of-hours support and treatment that is available across the region, aside from the emergency department at the hospital.”

NHS Direct is available by calling 0845 46 47 or by visiting To find your local walk-in centre or GP visit the NHS website.
