Firefighters will be recreating the aftermath of a road crash in Lichfield to hammer home the message about drink-driving.

The display will be in place from 7pm on Saturday (December 11) in the city centre to show people what can happen if they get behind the wheel after a pre-Christmas tipple.

John Bakewell, fire safety enforcement officer, said:

“In addition to Saturday night’s demonstration, which begins at 7pm until around 10pm, we will also be in the town centre again next Friday (December 17) between 7pm and 10pm visiting licensed premises.

“During these visits, we will be checking on fire regulations within the buildings to ensure they are properly in place to help keep party-goers safe.”

Saturday night also sees the launch of the Late Night Listeners initiative which involves church representatives providing a place where people can go to wind down if they need to during their night out.

The volunteers will provide an area to sit down in as well as hot drinks in a bid to tackle alcohol related violence, aggression or arguments.
