A man shot dead in his Chasetown home has been confirmed as Richard Deakin.

The 27-year-old was killed at his property in Meadway Street on July 5.

Forensic officers finally left the house and lifted the cordon yesterday evening (July 6) although police are continuing to maintain a presence in the area as they aim to piece together the events surrounding Mr Deakin’s death.

Specially-trained officers are continuing to offer support to Mr Deakin’s family.

A black Vauxhall Corsa, which is believed to have been involved in the incident, is undergoing a full forensic examination after it was found abandoned on Monday evening in Coppy Nook Lane, off Hospital Road, in Burntwood.

Chief Inspector Selwyn Burton, from Trent Valley division, said:

“We’d like to thank local residents for their patience while we carried out necessary inquiries at the house. They can rest assured that we are doing all we can to bring those responsible for Mr Deakin’s death to justice.

“Detectives from the force’s Major Investigations Department are continuing a full-scale inquiry into the incident and have already spoken to numerous witnesses.

“Neighbourhood police officers will remain in the area and be available to address any concerns residents may have.”
