FC Reedswood 2 Chasetown Ladies 3

After not playing for over a month because of poor weather and cancelled fixtures this League Cup quarter final was always going to be an extremely difficult game – made even worse for the visitors as they only had 11 players available.

However, Chasetown made a bright opening by scoring inside the first ten minutes. A corner was well taken by Jodie Kinsey and Stephanie Powell met the ball well to power a header into the net.

The visitors played some good football through the first half but failed to increase their lead. Reedswood had been restricted to a few long range shots, which Becky Troth held onto well.

On the stroke of half-time the hosts were given far too much space across the central midfield and the ball was worked free on the right. A 20 yard shot flew in over the keeper’s head to leave the game all square at half-time.

Chasetown were struggling to cover the ground because fitness levels had dropped during the lay-off, so a slight change in formation was required to cover the midfield a bit better and the Scholars went to three at the back. The changed formation helped as they took the lead again. Charlotte Bull was released down the left and she outpaced the defence before putting over a great cross for the poacher Sinead Treanor to place wide of the diving keeper.

Reedswood battled back well and equalised when a shot squirmed out of the keeper’s arms and just crossed the line.

The match really looked like it was heading towards extra-time, which nobody wanted as both teams were showing clear signs of fatigue.

But deep into time added on Katie Thompson scored the winner on her debut for the team. Again the attack came down the left from Bull as she supplied for Treanor who saw her shot saved. However, the rebound came to Thompson and she finished well from a wide angle.

Chasetown are really in need of additional players. Anyone interested, over the age of 16 should ring Trevor Barter on 01543 306791.
