Lichfield Garrick star presents prizes to bookmark competition winners

CBBC star Barney Harwood has taken a break from his role as Peter Pan at the Lichfield Garrick to present primary school pupils with competition prizes.

More than 250 children took part in the Warmer Homes, Greener District bookmark contest, entering their creative designs into the two age categories.

Six-year-old Libby May Randall, who goes to Croft Primary School in Armitage, won the four to seven age group with her colourful bookmark, which features litter-picking and turning off the lights.

Nine-year-old Isabel Mayes, from St Mary’s Primary School in Colton, won the seven to 11 age group with her ‘save energy’ theme and the catchy slogan, ‘show that you are bright by turning out the light’.

The winning designs have been turned into bookmarks, which Lichfield District Council will be sending to all the schools that entered the competition. They will also be available in libraries across the district and from the District Council House reception.

On top of their presentation bookmarks, the girls have won both their schools solar-power kits to use in the classroom.

Councillor Ian Pritchard, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Health and Environmental Protection, said:

“We hope these bookmarks will encourage more people to think about making their homes more energy efficient, and to find out how they could benefit from the Warmer Homes, Greener District scheme.

“All the bookmarks were brilliant, so choosing the two best entries was a hard task. However, we were very impressed with the winning designs, which are eye-catching and show a clear understanding of the topic. Thank you to all schools who took part and well done to Libby May and Isabel.”

The Warmer Homes, Greener District scheme offers Lichfield District homeowners a 50 per cent discount off cavity wall and loft insulation, or the whole amount for free to eligible homeowners. To find out more, freephone 0800 512 012 or visit
