CCTV footage of a Chasetown man’s killer will be broadcast as part of an appeal on TV’s Crimewatch programme.

Richard Deakin, 27, died after he was shot in bed in his Meadway Street home at around 8.30am on July 5.

Footage from the house’s CCTV shows the gunman walking in and out of the property before leaving with an accomplice in a black Vauxhall Corsa, which was abandoned less than a mile away in Coppy Nook Lane.

Mr Deakin moved to Chasetown with his fiancee Megan in 2008 where they lived with their daughters, Ellie, four, and Jessica, two. He was alone in the house at the time of his murder.

Detectives from Staffordshire Police’s Major Investigation Department believe that those responsible have links to the Wolverhampton, Tipton or Coseley areas.

Det Ch Insp Dave Garrett, who is leading the inquiry, said:

“Our detailed investigation into Richard Deakin’s murder is progressing, and we’re actively following several lines of inquiry. We are determined to catch those responsible for Richard’s death and take them off the streets.

“Specially-trained officers are offering support to Richard’s family at this tremendously difficult time. For their sake, it’s crucial that we bring Richard’s killers to justice.

“Somebody out there knows who murdered Richard. We hope that tonight’s Crimewatch appeal will prompt them to do the decent thing and pick up the phone. All calls will be treated in the strictest confidence.”

Crimewatch will be broadcast at 9pm on BBC1 tonight (December 14). Anyone with information is urged to ring the incident room on 01785 233600 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
