Lichfield sports hall to close for roof repairs

The sports hall at a Lichfield leisure centre is set to be closed while repairs to the roof are carried out.

The work at Friary Grange Leisure Centre will begin in the new year with the project exected to be completed by March 2011.

Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said:

“We’d like to thank everyone for bearing with us, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience this will cause. We have tried to relocate as many of the clubs that use the sports hall as we can.

“Unfortunately, the works will mean we will not be able to hire out our badminton courts or run other activities in the sports hall during this period. The rest of the leisure centre will be open as usual and should not be affected by the work.”

The work is necessary because the roof contains a number of cracked glazed panels and needs to be replaced to make sure it can withstand heavy rain or strong wind.

The repairs are being funded by Staffordshire County Council.
