Three injured in Christmas Day crash near Lichfield

Three young men were taken to hospital after their car ended up on top of a crash barrier near Lichfield in the early hours of Christmas Day.

The vehicle was traveling on the A38 towards Burton, just before the Barton-under-Needwood turn when the crash happened.

An ambulance came across the debris in the carriageway at just after 2am.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:

“One of the three occupants had managed to get out of the car but two were still inside the wreckage. Firefighters removed the roof of the car to allow ambulance staff to get the two out.”

An 18-year-old was taken to hospital with rib pain, while a 20-year-old was suffering with pains in his head. The third man, a 21-year-old was treated for back and neck pain.”

The spokesman added:

“The extreme cold meant the crew had to be aware of risks of hypothermia as temperatures were down to -12 degrees Celsius in the area.”
