Police warning to Burntwood drivers as thieves target older cars

Older cars parked on the street and in driveways are being targeted by scrap metal collectors, police in Burntwood have warned.

Vehicles built 10 to 15 years ago have been the car of choice for thieves travelling around the area looking for easy pickings.

Inspector David Challinor, Commander of Burntwood neighbourhood policing team, said:

“Increasing prices of scrap metal are making older cars prime targets for thieves. Cars are being stolen from the roadside as well as drives and we have even had reports of thieves using a low loader to pick up cars and take them away.

“We want owners of older vehicles to be aware and look at ways of improving their vehicle security.”

Police are urging anyone with information about the car thefts to call Burntwood police on 0300 123 44 55 or, Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
