Shenstone pub plans festival for Lichfield real ale fans

Lichfield real beer enthusiasts have given their backing to a village pub that is looking to promote micro-breweries in the area.

Members of the Lichfield, Sutton and Tamworth Branch of CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) are keen to highlight the many small breweries in this region and are urging landlords to support their cause.

Now, Shenstone landlord Ken Gardner is planning a local beer festival for the New Year – as well as looking for a micro-brewery that will create a special Fox and Hounds bitter!

He explained:

“We always have four hand-pulled ales available but, in the past, we have brought them in from all over the country. Now we plan to have at least one and sometimes two local ales every week.

“The local breweries are working hard in tough times and by spotlighting their brews we can help them and give our customers a variety of great beers on a regular basis.

“I am keen to have our very own Fox and Hounds bitter and would like to hear from anyone who thinks they could help us with that.”

Local CAMRA branch secretary Adam Randall added:

“More and more people are recognising the superior quality of small scale, locally produced food, and the same principles apply to beer!

“Not only do local ales carry less “beer miles”, they also support the local economy so we are always encouraging landlords to support them in this way.”

And for drinkers a little wary of unknown brews appearing behind their bars Adam said:

“Give them a try. I admit you won’t like them all, but if you don’t try any you’ll be missing out on some great ales.”

The one-day beer festival will be held on January 29 when it is hoped at least eight local brews will be featured.
