Burntwood U14s hoped to complete their league programme with their fifth win in as many games when they went up to Newcastle, but it was not to be as they were beaten by a well-drilled and well-organised home side.

The hosts went on the attack from the off and had an early penalty attempt which was missed.

The sides were evenly-matched but for the fact that Burntwood repeatedly spilled the ball or lost it in contact. Newcastle took advantage to score two converted tries before half time.

With the wind already against them, the threatened rain arrived in the second half to further hinder Burntwood’s cause and the hosts went on to score three tries, a conversion and a penalty to win 34-0.
