People in Lichfield and Burntwood are being given the chance to play the part of a judge in a new website designed to lift the lid on the process of sentencing offenders.

You be the Judge is an interactive site developed by the Ministry of Justice that allows web users to hear the details of an offence, consider the appropriate sentence and then see how their judgement compares with that of the actual court.

Richard Redgrave, Area Director, HMCS Staffordshire & West Mercia and Vice Chair of Staffordshire Criminal Justice Board said:

“You be the Judge is a powerful tool in helping to explain the sentencing process, and the criminal justice system in general.”

The site allows people to look at a range of cases and pass sentence.
