Rob Taylor gets ready for the bird count in Lichfield

Lichfield residents are being invited to help count feathered friends as part of the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch event.

Park rangers are hosting the count at Beacon Park on January 29 and 30 at Beacon Park, between 10am and 2pm.

Once the results are all in, the RSPB will use them to estimate how bird populations are fairing across the UK.

There will also be an opportunity to make a bird feeder out of pinecones, lard and bird seed, to help feed the birds this winter. The birdfeeders workshops cost just £1 and will take place in the Scout Hut.

Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said:

“Joining in with this national bird watch will help the RSPB and also allow you to take a quiet moment to yourself to study the fabulous wildlife right on your doorstep. Making a birdfeeder to take home with you is also a great way to help the birds in your garden.”

For more information, please call the park rangers on 01543 308867.
