Coalville RUFC U15 17 Burntwood RUFC U15 17

Burntwood U15s travelled to Coalville with something to prove having lost two previous encounters against the same opposition.

After an improved performance and quality rugby from both sides, the match deservedly finished all square 17-17.

It was hard-fought from the off with the first chance going to Burntwood in the second minute. Ryan Johnson’s solo break was only halted two metres from the try line.

However, Coalville drew first blood just two minutes later, seizing on a loose ball for their number eight to take over the line.

Josh Birch levelled the scores following excellent play by the whole team working their way through several phases of play.

Coalville hit back to take a 12-5 half time lead.

After the turnaround, most of the second period was played in the home half. Ben Tranter rewarded his side’s pressure with the first of his two tries to make it 12-10.

Coalville found space for an unchallenged run in for their third try but this only served to inspire the visitors.

In the closing minutes, Tranter ran on to a low ball, kicked ahead and dropped on the ball over the line for the touch down. Charlie Liggins converted with the last play of the game to conclude a contest full of effort and quality.
