Chasetown Ladies 5 Cottage Farm 1

Second from bottom Chasetown against second from top Cottage Farm could have been seen as a foregone conclusion – but the Scholars’ new-found confidence meant it was anything but.

The game opened brightly for Chasetown when Jodie Kinsey and Charlotte Bull played a neat one-two near the half way line. The latter then released Jade Arber down the wing behind the defence and as the goalkeeper came out, she calmly squared the ball for Sinead Treanor to slot home with barely a minute played.

By the time ten minutes had been played Chasetown were 2-0 up. Treanor collected a throw-in on the edge of the Cottage Farm penalty area before turning the defender and Sinead controlled and unleashing an unstoppable shot over the keeper’s head.

And Treanor completed her hat-trick on the stroke of the half-hour when and she chased down an under-hit backpass and rounded the keeper to tap home.

A stunned Cottage Farm began to find their feet in the second period, but every chance they had seemed to be struck straight at the Chasetown goalkeeper Becky Troth.

The defence of Nicci Barter, Steph Powell and Natasha Whitehouse were confidently dealing with almost everything Cottage Farm threw at Chasetown until they were awarded a penalty to make it 3-1 with 20 minutes to play.

The move of the game made the match safe. A Cottage Farm attack was broken up and the ball fed to the dominant Kinsey, she hit a superb pass for Bull to run onto. She got her head up and passed the ball across the box for Carly Edwards to confidently strike the ball into the net.

Right at the end of the match Kinsey hit another quality pass to Arber who unleashed a fierce shot that the keeper parried but could not stop from spinning into the goal.
