Lichfield City’s second string made it three wins out of three for new manager Paul Holt  as they toiled hard to beat a resiliant Coton Green side.

City went 1-0 up after a Coton Green defender handled on the line in the 20th minute, the resulting penalty being tucked away by Chris Ashley.

That was the only goal of a stagnent first half but the game came to life in the second period, Coton equalising straight from the restart as City defenders were caught napping at a corner resulting in a free header.

City went 2-1 up in the 60th minute, top scorer Ashley Bennett tucking away after fine play by Dan Mason down the left.  This resulted in a prolonged spell of pressure by the visitors which ended with them getting a deserved equaliser for the second time in the game.

City were having to defend a long spell of pressure as Coton poured forward, but slowly got back into the game and went 3-2 up when Dan Mason picked out the top corner from 25 yards with a well placed shot.

The goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors as City saved their best football for the last 15 minutes and made the game safe when Bennett netted his second of the game tapping home from eight yards after good play from substitute Hewitt.

On Saturday (January 29) the reserves face a trip to table toppers Polesworth, kick-off 2pm.
