The Lichfield Players are gearing up for their latest performance when they take to the stage with a production of Alan Ayckbourn’s Season’s Greetings.

The play – which runs from February 2 to 5 at the Lichfield Garrick theatre – tells the story of bored
housewife Belinda meets her sister’s new boyfriend for the first time during her seriously
dysfunctional family Christmas get – together.

The comedy includes the world’s most awful puppet show, Three Little Pigs, puppeteered by Belinda’s hopeless brother-in-law Bernard, and dreaded by almost all the family! However, the puppets and puppet theatre themselves are anything but awful – brilliantly made especially for the production by Lichfield Players members Nigel and Caroline Lowe, and Jim Worrallo.

Director Barrie Atchison said:

“It’s almost worth coming to the play just to see the puppet theatre! But as well as that there are terrific performances from some of our most talented actors and actresses. And this play is Alan Ayckbourn at his best, a wonderful mixture of bizarre characters, dark undercurrents, hilariously awkward situations, and observations about family Christmases that seem horribly familiar to most of us!”

The Players will be promoting the play in Lichfield city centre on the morning of January 29, when they will be handing out vouchers offering a special £2 discount for audience members who book tickets for the Wednesday performance.
