The organisers of the first Lichfield half marathon are hoping to get off to a flying to start as entries begin to flood in.

The event takes place on May 1 and is being put together by the company behind the Fradley 10k race.

And Kevin Wilson, from organisers KP Events, admits he’s been surprised by the support from the region’s running fraternity.

He said:

“It seems that we have hit on an event that was much needed in Lichfield. The 10k events at Fradley in March and in Lichfield in September are both very popular and are now well established and have excellent reputations, but a half marathon in the region was obviously needed with only Stafford, Uttoxeter and Birmingham locally having similar races at other times in the year.”

A major sponsor is due to be announced in the near future and Kevin is hopeful that this will help cement the importance of the event on the Midlands running calendar.

He explained:

“Having a major name involved will certainly help and we hope to announce such a name in the next few days. We also aim to announce how we propose to help raise money for local good causes shortly too, again something we are very supportive of as we are with our other events locally.”
