Lichfield City FC’s second strong continued their recent run of good form in a windswept encounter at Brownsfield Park by the odd goal in three.
Kicking with the wind in the first half, a confident City took the game to the visitors and found themselves a goal up after ten minutes when a Danny Worrall through ball put striker Chris Ashley in on goal and he finished cooly past keeper Matt Ford.
City, with their tails up, were in total control of the game now and their passing game was opening the visiting defence up at will.
A slick passage of play involving Will Evans and Jason Hewitt fed leading Scorer Ashley Bennett, with his back to goal he still had plenty of work to do but expertly turned and fizzed a shot into the roof of the net to double Lichfield’s advantage with 20 minutes gone.
City continued to dominate and several chances went begging to go into the break at two goals to the good.
With the second half under way and the strong wind in the visitors favour, City’s defence dealt comfortably with Walsall Wood’s long ball tactics and continued to trouble the visitors on the break.
With ten minutes remaining Walsall were given a life line courtesy of a decision to penalise defender Danny Reeves for handball, the resulting penalty being tucked away by Russ Dodds.
With the clock ticking the visitors huffed and puffed for an equaliser but City’s back line, superbly marshalled by man of the match Reeves held firm to pick up another three points for manager Paul Holt to extend their winning sequence to four games.
