Lichfield City FC’s second string continued their fine run of form, winning their fifth consective game to move up to fourth in the table.

A scrambled goal from Danny Worrall in the eighth minute proved enough to take all three points in this local derby.

City started the brightest and saw a lot of early possesion create a couple of half chances before a Lloyd Dunet corner wasn’t cleared by the home side allowing Worrall to get the final touch and head home a scrappy goal.

A young City side battled gamely for the rest of the half, even overcoming the loss of goalscorer and captain Danny Worrall with a groin strain.

The second half started with the hosts launching wave after wave of attacks on the City goal but couldn’t find a way past a resolute Lichfield defence superbly marshalled by Aarhon Mahon. The closest they came saw a 25-yard free-kick bsuperbly tipped onto the bar by keeper Scott Hamilton.

City showed the great character and finished the stronger with veteran striker Paul Gregory hitting the bar when he really should have scored and Jason Hewitt denied a penalty after being pulled to the floor with just the keeper to beat.

Lichfield comfortably saw out the remainder of the game to keep up their impressive run and set themselves up nicely for next week’s semi-final of the Staffs President’s Cup against Rugeley outfit Lea Hall.
