Midfielder Dave Egan admits he’s “devastated” to be missing out on Chasetown FC’s FA Trophy quarter-final clash with Mansfield Town.
The Scholars talisman has been ruled out for six weeks after breaking his wrist during the Scholars’ defeat at FC United of Manchester.
But the influential midfielder is determined to put his personal pain aside to cheer on his team-mates from the sidelines when Charlie Blakemore’s men bid to continue their fairytale run.

He told The Lichfield Blog:
“The timing of this injury could not have been any worse, I’m absolutely devastated. I’m in a cast for six weeks so it’s pretty much the end of my season, although hopefully I’ll be able to keep fit in time for Wembley!
“I’ve spoken to a few of the lads about my injury and they have all been supportive and feel sorry for me, not that it helps, but I’ll make sure I’m there cheering them on.
“Our league form’s been poor recently and let’s hope it really is a case of everyone wanting to be on top form for Mansfield. I don’t think that the league form will affect the lads, though. They know what they have to do – give everything they’ve got and be horrible to play against. Charlie will make sure they are up for it!”
Egan could yet be joined by other Chasetown stars on the sidelines on Saturday as Richard Teesdale and Gary Birch face a race to be fit.
However, the midfielder believes the Scholars have more than enough strength in depth to overcome the odds. He said:
“It’s always a little disheartening when players get injured but that’s football and we have good players to come in.”
Chasetown’s game against Mansfield kicks off at 3pm on Saturday (February 26). Supporters are being reminded that the game is all-ticket. For more information call 01543 682222.
