Police are setting up computer checkpoints around Lichfield to catch would-be criminals.
The ANPR system – which allows officers to instantly check registration numbers, insurance and tax details – will be used on main routes into Shenstone, Stonnall and Little Aston.
The patrols are being set up on all main routes which link the area with Birmingham and the Black Country as part of Operation Fortress.
Inspector Jed White, Lichfield neighbourhood policing team commander, said:
“Recent arrests show that criminals based in neighbouring large urban areas are travelling into the Lichfield area to commit crimes. Our operation is aimed at disrupting their activities and sending a clear message that Lichfield and surrounding villages are no go areas for crooks.
“The ANPR system is highly effective in highlighting vehicles which are on the road illegally which we know are often used by criminals travelling across the area.”
Meanwhile, police are urging anyone with information about criminals targeting properties in the Stonnall, Shenstone or Little Aston areas, to contact officers on 0300 123 44 55 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Cynic, there has been an increase in criminal activity in Stonnall, Shenstone and Little Aston. This is a report that the police are attempting to target some of their resources on this particular increase in criminal activity.

Just for the record perhaps you have noticed the number of complaints ,by the public,about the police have increased.
