Police are trying to trace a man who assaulted a woman in Lichfield.

Officers believe the offender may have been trying to steal her car when the incident happened at 7pm on Monday evening (March 7).

A man appeared on the driveway of the house in Darnford Lane, Boley Park, and punched her before attempting to grab her keys. He then ran away but may have got into a waiting vehicle which drove off in the direction of the Co-op superstore.

Police investigating the incident have received reports that two vehicles, possibly a red Peugeot and a red VW, were seen close to the house at around the time of the offence.

Officers are appealing for the drivers, or anyone who saw the vehicles, to come forward.

Although badly shocked, the woman was not seriously injured. She was taken to hospital for checks and later allowed home.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the Darnford Lane area and who may have seen a man, or a number of people or cars, acting
suspiciously, to contact them as a matter of urgency.

Jed White, commander of the Lichfield neighbourhood policing team, said:

“Boley Park is home to lots of hard working families and incidents of this nature are, thankfully, extremely rare. This was a nasty assault which left the woman badly shocked and I am appealing for anyone with information to come forward and speak with police.”

“Neighbourhood officers are continuing to carry out high visibility patrols in Boley Park and are happy to meet local residents to discuss any issues.”

The male offender is around six feet tall and was wearing a striped top and jeans.

Meanwhile, detectives are also urging anyone with home CCTV to check their system in case they have captured footage of people or vehicles acting suspiciously.
