Charlie Blakemore has told his Chasetown FC players to forget their FA Trophy heartache.

The Scholars boss saw his side’s fairytale run come to an end after a 3-1 defeat at Mansfield Town on Tuesday night.

But with a league game against Mickleover tonight, Blakemore insists his players cannot afford to dwell on their controversial defeat.

He said:

“We will fight again and its back to the bread and butter of the league now. We have been very close to a dream but that gap in quality of finishing was what perhaps made the difference.

“We have now got to pick ourselves up and build on what we’ve done and keep going in the league now. We have 17 league games left so a hell of a lot of games left to get in but we wouldn’t swap this run for the world.”

Blakemore will also be hoping that another magical cup run will have landed the Scholars a few more supporters ahead of tonight’s clash against Mickleover.

More than 500 fans made the trip to Mansfield to cheer on Chasetown in the FA Trophy.

And the Scholars boss admits he was delighted with the turn-out. He added:

“The support we’ve had with over 500 fans who have come down and sang all night they have done the club proud as well. It was one of the biggest away crowds that Mansfield have had this season and it has also helped to put us back in the national spotlight as well.”

Chasetown’s game against Mickleover kicks off at 7.45pm at the Scholars Ground.
