Libraries in Burntwood and Lichfield are going wireless.

Free WiFi is being introduced to all of the county’s libraries this month after a successful trial in Burton.

Staffordshire County Council is hoping the technology will help turn the buildings into community hubs.

County Councillor Pat Corfield said:

“While libraries around the country are closing, Staffordshire is committed to protecting and innovating the service to meet people’s needs. It’s very clear that libraries are a priority for the people of Staffordshire.

“Whether you are a job seeker looking for information and support on ways to get back into work, a student studying to broaden your life chances, or a business executive looking to access information or an affordable town centre meeting room, libraries provide a route to opportunity.

“In the last year we have run more than 2,600 IT training events, helping people to get on line and get active, from silver surfers to budding entrepreneurs. WiFi access is just the latest service we are adding to the menu.”
