As well as being councillor for the Colton and Mavesyn Ridware ward from 1995 to 2001, he was also the chairman of the council in 2004 and 2005.

Cllr Hill died at his home on March 17.

Cllr Mike Wilcox, leader of Lichfield District Council, said:

“Tony Hill was a district councillor for an impressive 16 years. He was popular and well-regarded, and his presence will be missed by everyone here at the council. Tony was committed to his constituents, and worked hard on behalf of his community.

“He took an active role at council meetings and sat on and chaired lots of committees. He was proud to take up the role as chairman of the council from 2004 to 2005, and enjoyed the opportunity to meet people and groups from across the district.

“Tony’s loss will be felt keenly by all who knew him, and I will miss a good friend.”

Lichfield District Council will not be holding a by-election for the Colton and Mavesyn Ridware ward. A new district councillor will be elected as part of this May’s elections.
