Final preparations are underway for the first ever Lichfield half-marathon.
The Salts Techstep Lichfield Half Marathon race takes place on Sunday (May 1) and will see 1,300 athletes running the route to and from Lichfield via Whittington.
A delighted Kevin Wilson of KP Events said:
“Runners are coming from far and wide to take part and I can’t wait to see two years of planning come together. We had to close entries early and to have to do that for the first ever event of its kind in the district is great news and testament to the course.”
Participants will be given an added boost as sponsors Salts Techstep are providing them with two emergency feet clinics along the route.
The Birmingham-based firm will be staffing a Foot Pitstop and handing out HydroHeel plasters for runners who are experiencing blisters along with a Foot Recovery Zone at the finish on Stowe Field, where they will be offering advice and treatment to runners about their feet and lower limbs after the event.
Adrian Priest from Techstep said:
“I would like to wish everyone the best of luck for the race and hope those racing for charities raise lots of money for good causes.“
Lichfield marathon legend Jon Dawson is starting the event at King Edwards Leisure Centre at 10.30am with runners heading along the A51 towards Tamworth. After the Barracks they will turn left towards Whittington and then pass over the A38 to Fradley. Finally back through Netherstowe onto Stowe Fields for the finish, in view of Lichfield Cathedral.
The Lichfield Blog will also be providing coverage of the event on the day via our Lichfield Sport Twitter page as well as providing all the analysis, interviews and action after the event.
