As Lichfield and Burntwood voters prepare to go to the ballot box for the local elections on May 5, The Lichfield Blog has offered each of the candidates the chance to have their say.
We’ve sent out questionnaires to all District Council candidates and will publish their responses on the site to help you decide where to put your cross on election day. If your local candidates haven’t responded yet, why not chase them?
Name: Roger Morgan
Party: Labour
Ward: Chadsmead
Occupation: Retired professor of engineering
What has made you decide to stand for election?
I want to give electors a choice of a candidate of a major national party that is not part of the Westminster coalition and that offers a real alternative for the local council.
What are the key local issues for you in your ward?
Maintaining good services and continuity of employment in a difficult financial environment forced on us by the Westminster government.
If you are elected how do you plan to keep your constituents informed of what you are doing to represent them?
Through regular ‘surgeries’ and press releases to local newspapers and web media.
How do you feel you will be able to make a difference to your constituents?
By representing their needs and their best interests.
Anything else you would like to add?
This is my first time as a candidate in any election. I offer a new voice and a fresh approach to local issues.
Also standing in the Chadsmead ward (once they have responded, these will link to the response):
- Marion Bland (Lib Dem)
- Peter Cope (UKIP)
- Mike Fryers Snr (Conservatives)
