Lichfield CC skipper Adam Braddock believes his side have built strong foundations for the season ahead. The city side recorded an upset in the Staffordshire Cup as they pulled off a two-wicket victory against Himley from the Birmingham League Premier. They will be looking to follow their early season success with a league triumph at home to Brewood on Saturday (May 7). Lichfield have introduced two new faces to their line-up during the close season as New Zealander J Bassett-Graham and Birmingham University student Gareth James. And Braddock believes the new signings will give his side an extra boost. He said:
“We are really looking forward to the challenge of this season – this was a fantastic result against a very strong side but we know we must show that level of performance very week in the league if we are to do well. “As always this league is hard to call with six new sides to contend with, but I am pleased we have kept our squad together and am excited about the two new additions, who have both settled into the club’s ethos really well and both look very good players. “We are still in talks with one other player who will boost our squad and hopefully he will sign this week to add real competition for places which can only be heathly for a club like ours who rely heavily on home grown players.”
Lichfield will be without all-rounder J Sarginson for the visit of Brewood as he undergoes surgery on his shoulder – a procedure that is likely to rule him out for much of the season. The game on Saturday begins at noon.
