Lichfield & Burntwood residents invited to learn more about fostering

People who think they can help transform the lives of children or just want to find out more about fostering are being invited to find out at a Lichfield event.

To celebrate Fostering Fortnight, Staffordshire County Council’s Fostering and Adoption service is holding a drop in session aimed at showing what it’s really like to foster, and highlighting the need for more foster carers.

Called ‘Time to Care’, the campaign aims to encourage those interested in fostering to come along to a drop in session to find out more. On hand will be social workers and experienced foster carers who will be available to answer any questions about fostering, as well as Reggie the foster carer recruitment bus.

The scheme will be available to residents during the Bower on Monday 30th May.

Foster carers in Staffordshire can benefit from an unrivalled package of support provided by an ‘Outstanding’ fostering and adoption service, including training.

Lynda Frost is a current foster carer from Newcastle. She said:

“I have been a foster carer with Staffordshire for over 12 years, during that time I have received fantastic support from Staffordshire County Council.

“They have always been there to offer support when required 24/7, teaching me new skills to develop my fostering career and offering support on a personal level through regular contact with my link worker. They are there to support not only the children but the foster carers themselves, understanding the needs, support and development needed by them.”

County Councillor Mike Lawrence, Cabinet Member for Children’s Wellbeing said:

“The decision to foster or adopt is life-changing, both for the foster carer and the child. If you think you can change a child’s life, paid for and supported by the county council’s outstanding Fostering and Adoption Service, come along to one of the drop in sessions and find out more.”
