Eighty tonnes of manure catch fire at Chase Terrace farm

Firefighters from Lichfield and Burntwood have been battling a blaze that started in 80 tonnes of manure.

Crews were called to a farm in Chase Terrace at 6.45pm last night (May 24) and had to act quickly to prevent the fire spreading to a nearby barn.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Ian Sloss said:

“We pumped water from a nearby hydrant to provide us with water due to the location of the incident. There was a high risk that the fire would spread to a barn that was situated close by, so we used farm machinery to create a break between the fire and the barn which was successful and prevented the fire from spreading.”

Firefighters returned to the scene this morning to continue damping down hot spots. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
