Plans are being put in place to make this year’s Lichfield Dash a race of champions.

The event on July 16 will see a range of junior and senior races before the elite athletes attempt to beat the chimes of Lichfield Cathedral.

And the Dash founder Kevin Wilson has invited a number of former winners to battle it out in the Salts Techstep-sponsored race.

The first and second place finishers from 2010, Birchfield Harriers’ James Whitehouse and Cannock and Stafford AC’s Ashley Wickett are already confirmed for the 12noon race, but invites have also been given to 2002 winner James Thie and 2008 champion Jimmy Watkins.

Kevin explained:

“Both athletes have been popular winners and both have represented their country at the highest levels so it would be great to have them back in Lichfield to race the dash again before Olympic year.”
