Lichfield is set to host its first ever city centre athletics event on August Bank Holiday Sunday.
The Keely’s Lichfield Athletics 1,2,3 event will feature activities for all ages.
Organised by city running event specialists KP Events, the programme forms the running middle in a cycling sandwich with the Lichfield City Centre Cycle Race taking place from 9.30am on August 28.
The athletics slots into a 12.30pm to 1.30pm slot with three running events round the city centre 1k course.
At 12.30pm there’s the Keely’s Family 1k where participants can just turn up and have a go and running round the course for a £1 entry fee.
At 12.50pm it’s the McDonalds Junior 2k with two categories – 13 and under and 15 and under – racing around two circuits of the 1k course. The cost is £2 per junior athlete.
Then at 1.05pm the KP Fitness Senior 3k takes centre stage, with runners aged 16 years and older taking on three laps of the course.
Kevin Wilson, of organisers KP Events, hopes people will want to participate and spectate the races. He explained:
“The cycling is very popular and very exciting and we have the opportunity to showcase city centre athletics to the people of Lichfield, it’s quite a popular concept abroad so here’s our chance to be the first Midlands city to try it out.”
