Runners are being reminded that there is still chance to take part in the Lichfield 10k road race and 2k fun run. Taking place on September 11, more than 1,000 people are expected to take part in the event. The races, which are being organised by Lichfield Running Club will start at King Edward VI Lesiure Centre and feature runners of all abilities. A spokesperson said:
“There will be some serious runners, but most are mainly interested in completing the course and raising money for their nominated charity. The fun runners will be finishing in times from about 12 minutes to over 40 minutes so anyone is welcome to try out their athletic prowess. “Lichfield RUFC have entered a team of 20 boys so teams and family entry to the fun run is most welcome.”
The races are sponsored by Midlands Pest Control and Lichfield Health & Fitness Club and have been supported by Cllr Alan White and Cllr Terry Finn who have each contributed £500 from their Local Community Fund. Everyone taking part in the 10k will receive a goody bag from ZIPVIT , a t-shirt and water at the finish. A medal and banana will be given to everyone who completes the fun run. The spokesperson added:
“The fun run is a chance for all non-serious runners to get out and take up the challenge. Last year the Lichfield Running Club were able to support 13 local charities and organisations and this year we have presented a cheque for £1,000 to Queens Croft School. The money will help fund specialist equipment for pupils. “Come along to support the biggest and best sporting event held in Lichfield and cheer on all the runners. It will be a good day out for all the family.”
The entry desks open at 8.30am on September 11 and will remain open until either the race limits are reached or 30 minutes before the races start. Both races will begin at 10.30am with free changing and shower facilities available at King Edward VI Leisure Centre, together with free massages from Atlas Pain Relief. The race is also supported by St John Ambulance, McDonalds, ATC, Lions International Lichfield Branch and Lichfield and Hatherton Canal Restoration Trust.
