Ruth Witczak gets ready for the sandcastle competition

Families are being urged to pick up their buckets and spades for a sandcastle competition in Lichfield.

Beacon Park’s temporary beach will host the event from 11am to 4pm on Monday (August 29).

Judging will take place at 4.30pm with prizes being awarded for the best sandcastles.

Councillor Val Richards said:

“Come down to the new Beacon Beach on bank holiday Monday to show off your sandcastle making skills. Dig trenches, build bridges and tower your sandcastles high to be in with the chance of winning a prize.”

As well as the sandcastle competition, there will be lots of fun activities on offer throughout the day, including arts and crafts, outdoor games and a find the Staffordshire Hoard competition.

The competition is open to children under 12 and is free, but youngsters must have their own bucket and spade. Alternatively, they can be purchased from the park rangers on the day.
