Lichfield park to host bat and moth night

Visitors to a Lichfield park are being given the chance to find out about the city’s night-time wildlife.

A bat and moth night will take place at Beacon Park tomorrow (August 26) from 8.30pm.

Rangers will set moth-friendly light traps so the group can experience the diversity of local moths.

Cllr Val Richards said:

“This will be a fascinating walk, and a good chance to find out more about Beacon Park’s wildlife. It’s the perfect time of year to spot plenty of moths and bats, as there are so many interesting species about.”

Lichfield District Council’s countryside team will also be at the event with bat detectors to identify which kind of bats are flying and feeding in the area.

Cllr Neil Roberts added:

“Everyone is welcome to join us at this event, and, you never know, you could even spot a beautiful hook-tip or a brown long-eared bat. Please remember to dress up warm and bring a torch.”

The evening event costs £2.50. To book your place on the Bat and Moth Night, call the council’s parks team on 01543 308869.
