Lichfield City FC progressed to round two of the Presidents Cup in style as they scored four times without reply at Tally Ho.

City hit the ground running and took the lead inside ten seconds as a Police back pass was hit straight at striker Sean Williams by keeper Stuart Parker, leaving the Lichfield man with a simple tap in.

In difficult blustery conditions, the visitors were knocking the ball around confidently and Williams went close to doubling the advantage.

Despite their dominance, the hosts did carve out a couple of decent chances but found the excellent Craig Johnson in the Lichfield goal in superb form, first beating out a Steve Windle snap shot before blocking out an effort from Dan Jarratt at close range.

City settled back down and doubled their advantage on 35 minutes when Danny Worrall and Sol Griffiths combined to tee up Lewis Bourne who smashed a shot into the top corner from 25 yards out, sending Lichfield into the break with some breathing space.

The second half with the wind at City’s back saw the game become one way traffic with winger Sol Griffiths on his full debut causing problems with his pace and Lee Ashmore with his trickery.

Lichfield scored a third on 58 minutes when Griffiths combined with Ashmore to set up Williams who finished with ease.

The hosts were handed a lifeline on 70 minutes when Tom Gibson upended Jarratt in the box, but he blazed the penalty wildly over the bar to keep City’s three goal lead intact.

Lichfield wrapped up the scoring five minutes from time when Ashmore picked out substitute Mark Rose to tap home.

City are at home this Saturday (September 10) against Feckenham, kick-off 3pm.
