A game of few clear cut chances saw honours even, with the unusual October heat taking its toll on both sets of players.

Both sides had large spells of the game on top, but in the final third, defences were on top of the forwards and efforts on goal were at a premium.

Chasetown Ladies came into this game on the back of an impressive 5-2 win, so it was no surprise that they started the more positively. Territorially, the Scholars were on top for the first ten minutes or so, with Chase keeper Becky Troth a spectator who did not touch the ball until a large portion of the first half had passed.

Cottage Farm stood well though and restricted Chasetown’s goalscoring opportunities, and perhaps fired on by the score still being even, the home side dominated for the next quarter of an hour or so, with Chasetown’s defensive partnership of Sarah Thompson and Steph Taylor standing firm.

Chasetown put the home side under pressure with a series of long throws and corners, and player-manager Carly Edwards’ side would rightly feel that they would be the more likely to take the lead.

Midway through the second half, hat-trick hero from last weekend, Jodie Kinsey forced a save with a long range free-kick, while Cottage Farm went close with a break down the right only for the cross to be over-hit and the danger was cleared.

A number of Jodie Kinsey corners in the second half saw the home side under a bit more pressure, but Chasetown’s best chance came with a really swift counter-attack. Carly Edwards received the ball in midfield and motored forward down the inside-right channel. Her neat pass inside to the on-rushing Bethan Garland Ridding gave the home goalkeeper just half a chance of getting there first and the chance was gone.

Rocked by injuries and university commitments after their opening two games of the season, the Ladies are showing signs of settling down as a team and are unbeaten in the last two games, lying fourth in the West Midland Regional League Division 1 North.
