Chasetown FC Reserves boss Andy Penny saw his side romp to victory against one of the clubs he turned out for as a player.

Daniel Westwood and Drew Aiton each enjoyed a hat-trick, while Jonathan Gould and Max Black also hit the net as the Scholars found their shooting boots in style.

The visitors made their intentions clear from the start as they fought hard to create a six-goal first half lead.

Chad Degville-Cross and Gould immediately started charging down the wings looking a real threat and it was no surprise when Westwood’s opener came after three minutes. The hesitant home defence failed to deal with Drew Aiton as he centered for the unmarked Westwood to convert from close range.

His second followed two minutes later, steering home a header from a Gould cross.

Gould himself added his name to the scoresheet with a well taken half volley as the Chasetown onslaught gained momentum.

The Aiton brothers combined to typify the confidence flowing though the Scohlars when they linked up to produce the best goal of the game. Jamie intercepted a high Town ball and chested to feet. He dribbled into opposition territory and found Drew in the danger area, and he rounded the keeper to place home the fourth goal.

Relentless attacking continued as Drew Aiton tore forward and unselfishly picked out Westwood who had engineered enough space to easily complete his hat-trick and Chasetown’s fifth within 32 minutes.

Number six came after first teamer Mark Hands looped a high ball over the Stratford defence for Westwood who prodded through for Drew Aiton to net with the most outrageous of cheeky finishes.

The Scholars slowed things down after the interval – they had no choice as both teams baked in tropical conditions. As the temperature soared, players and officials scrambled for water at any opportunity.

Despite their goal deficit the hosts refused to let heads drop, continuing to search for openings, trying to restore a semblance of pride.

Dale Faultless kept the Scholars defence on their toes, and earned the plaudits as dived high to his right to push Gregory Binns’ curler around the post. He then had to be alert to produce a double save from Town’s Michael Healy on the opposite post.

Captain Jack Hulin conducted a perfect role under pressure, controlling the quick-footed Bins, Town’s most dangerous attacker.

Chasetown became aware of what was going on and turned up the heat again 69 minutes into the second half. Craig Deakin, returning from injury, was introduced into play and singled out Max Black who bent an inch-perfect curler past Tom Greensall’s despairing fingertips for 7-0.

With five minutes of play remaining Drew Aiton sealed his hat-trick, beating the keeper with a low drive sealed his hat trick as he collected from Tom Brown.

The Scholars Reserves entertain at home for the first time since August on Saturday (October 8) when they aim to continue their unbeaten run against Rugby Town.
