Half-term fun on offer at leisure centres in Lichfield and Burntwood

Leisure centres in Lichfield and Burntwood will be doing their best to keep children entertained during the October half-term.

Burntwood Leisure Centre is booking now for its Holiday Club, which offers arts and crafts, games and swimming for youngsters aged from five to 11.

Running from 9am to 4pm, from October 24 to 28, it costs £15 a day or £60 for the week.

Young swimmers, aged from four to six, can learn the basics of swimming on the Swimming Crash Course at Burntwood Leisure Centre. Aimed at beginners, it will run from October 24 to 28, from 9am to 9.30am for four to five year olds, and 9.30am to 10am for five to six year olds. The course costs £25 for the week.

The centre is also offering swimming, football on the synthetic pitch, tennis, squash and badminton court special offers throughout the half term holiday. To see the full programme, visit www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/blc.

Friary Grange Leisure Centre will once again feature the Splashtastic holiday swimming offer – which also runs at Burntwood Leisure Centre – allowing children under 16 years of age to swim for 50p when accompanied by an adult, or £1 if unaccompanied.

There is also a dodgeball course for eight to 14 year olds running on October 27 and 28, from 10am to 2pm, costing £25.

British Cycling is also hosting a holiday coaching course at Friary Grange Leisure Centre.

The Go Ride Cycling sessions will teach the skills of off-road, road cycling, and racing. Riders can use their own bike and helmet, or borrow one. To book, call Louise Day on 07534281265 or email louiseday@britishcycling.org.uk.

The half-term fun will also take place at King Edward VI Leisure Centre with two fun coaching courses.

Table tennis sessions for eight to 15 year olds will run from October 24 to 28 , from 9am to 11am daily, and costs £30 for the week.

Badminton players can also brush up on their skills on a five day course, which costs £30 and will run at the leisure centre from October 24 to 28, from 11.30am to 1.30pm.

Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for leisure services, said: “We have an exciting programme of activities to keep children and young people active over the autumn half term break.

“There is something to suit every child at our three leisure centres during the week-long holiday. The courses book up quickly, so make sure you secure your child’s place by calling your centre of choice as soon as you can.”
