Scott Tennant and Alison Rippon prepare for the lifeguard training course

A course in Lichfield is offering the chance for people to train as lifeguards.

Friary Grange Leisure Centre will offer the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification course during half-term for over 16s.

This five days of sessions take place between October 24 and 28, between 9am and 6pm, followed by an assessment on October 29.

Phil Kelly, manager of Friary Grange Leisure Centre, said: “If you can swim 200 metres non-stop, and are interested in working or volunteering as a lifeguard, this is a great course for you. It will teach you the swimming and first aid skills needed to become a lifeguard, which could help you to save someone’s life in the future.”

Everyone who completes the course and assessment will receive The Royal Life Saving Society National Pool Lifeguarding Qualification, which lasts for two years and can be renewed.

The course costs £220, which includes the assessment. For more information or to book a place call Friary Grange Leisure Centre on 01543 308842.
