Chasetown Ladies progressed comfortably to the next round of the Staffordshire County Cup with a double-figure win over Lichfield City.

The gulf between the two sides at kick off should have guaranteed a large victory, but Carly Edwards’ side still had to be professional and complete the job in hand.

The Scholars were ahead after seven minutes when a quick throw-in from Megan Rose found Jodie Kinsey in acres of space and she made no mistake from inside the box.

Lichfield held out well for long periods of the first half, and the closest Chasetown came to increasing their lead was in the 23rd minute when Stacey Roberts hit the crossbar, while Kinsey had a free-kick saved on 25 minutes.

Finally, the second goal came in the 27th minute when Carly Edwards cross-cum-shot caught the Lichfield keeper out looping over her head and into the back of the net. Then, a minute later, Jodie Kinsey fired a shot into the bottom corner.

To their credit, Lichfield had a go and thought they had pulled a goal back before half-time, but for a fine save from Becky Troth.

On the stroke of half-time, it was game over. Kinsey’s first shot came back off the post and she followed up herself to complete her hat-trick.

After the interval, Chasetown went for the kill. Two goals in two minutes after the restart had Chasetown 6-0 in front. First, Lyndsey Turner netted and then Bethan Garland-Ridding was clean through on goal, took the ball on and confidently placed the ball past the keeper.

In the 52nd minute, Lucy Allen fired a powerful shot against the crossbar, with the rebound falling to Kinsey who netted again, and, in quick succession, Lyndsey Turner added her second with a neat right foot shot, and Kinsey added her fifth and Chasetown’s ninth with arguably the best goal of the game, lobbing the Lichfield keeper from distance.

Lichfield gave it their all, but were not a match for Chasetown, and didn’t have a great deal of luck either.

In the 68th minute, Carly Edwards cross was met by a defender, who could only clear it against the back of a team mate, allowing Edwards the easiest of finishes for 10-0.

Substitute Kate Rose netted a hat-trick inside five minutes with Lichfield struggling to get out their defensive third. Her first was a shot from inside the penalty area, Rose’s second was a neat shot on the turn after a cross from Edwards and Rose got her hat-trick goal following a Kinsey pass from inside the penalty area.

The final strike came from twin Megan Rose, who received a superb through ball from Dani Wright in the final minute and drove her shot home.
