Chrissy Winter, 55, will cover 1,416 lengths of Friary Grange Leisure Centre’s pool to raise funds for Aspire.

The charity supports people with spinal cord injuries and holds the yearly swimming challenge.

Chrissy said: “When I was at an Early Birds swimming session at Friary Grange Leisure Centre, I noticed a leaflet about the Aspire Channel Swim. I am not a strong swimmer, but decided to have a go anyway.

“It’s a really big challenge for me as it is 22 miles – the equivalent of swimming the English Channel over 12 weeks. I am half way through and can hardly believe it. Swimming for charity is a big incentive, and I’ve noticed that my swimming is getting stronger each week.”

So far, Chrissy has raised £260 towards her target of £500. To support Chrissy, you can make a donation online at

“I hope to complete my 22 miles by 1 December, and would appreciate all the support I can get to raise money for this vital charity,” Chrissy added. “Thank you to everyone who has donated to the cause so far.”
