Chance for Lichfield residents to find out more about adoption

A roadshow in Lichfield is set to offer information about adoption.

The event in Market Square on November 3 is being organised as part of National Adoption Week.

There are currently 80 children waiting to find new families in Staffordshire and the workshop is aimed at giving people information about adoption.

County Councillor Mike Lawrence, cabinet member for children’s wellbeing, said: “Children who are in care waiting to be adopted have often gone through a lot in their short lives and can be very scared and vulnerable. It is vital that they are loved, nurtured and made to feel safe and secure.

“That is why we are calling for people to get in touch and find out more about what adoption involves. It is true that taking a fragile child into your family can be a challenge at times but it is also an incredibly rewarding thing to do and makes an immeasurable difference to young people’s futures.

“There are a lot of loving people out there who can offer an adoptive child a wonderful upbringing. Whether you a single, married, in a civil partnership or an established relationship, you can be considered to adopt.

“You don’t have to own your own home and there is no upper age limit for adoptive parents so it really is something that everyone in the community can consider.”

The roadshow will be in Market Square from 11am to 3pm on November 3. For more information call 0800 169 2061 or visit
